Is Canberra the wellbeing capital of the world?

Canberra has beaten 362 other cities to be named the best place in the world to live in terms of wellbeing, according to new research released by the OECD.

The city, which boasts a high proportion of public servants, scored a perfect 10 for income, safety and civic engagement.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ranked regions in 34 member countries across nine measures, including education, jobs, income, safety, health, environment, civic engagement and accessibility to services and housing.

Australia came out on top as the best country overall, with ACT leading across almost all nine categories except environment and housing.

Queensland and Tasmania scored 10 out of 10 on environment measures, with Western Australia scoring 8.8 for housing.
