Asylum-seekers sent to Nauru

The 157 asylum seekers who have been at the centre of a legal battle have been removed from the Curtin detention centre in Western Australia and sent to Nauru.

The Tamils were initially held at sea by Australian Customs and Border Protection officials for almost a month after their boat was intercepted after leaving an Indian port.

After protracted negotiations with India and a High Court challenge, they were taken to the Curtin detention centre in Western Australia.

The Federal Government has confirmed they are being relocated but has so far declined to say where they are going.

More to come.
