Man charged with stalking

Two women were stalked and assaulted by a man as they left bars on a popular Melbourne night-life strip, a court has heard.

Adam Robertson, 36, is accused of following the two women separately as they left two Brunswick bars in the early hours of May 10.

Prosecutor Luke Excell told the Melbourne Magistrates Court that Robertson attended a music show at a bar in Brunswick and followed one woman out as she left.

He then grabbed her in a headlock on Sydney Road, before dragging her down a side street and sexually assaulting her, Mr Excell said on Tuesday.

Robertson is accused of following another woman soon after as she left the Brunswick Hotel then tackling her to the ground and assaulting her when she turned down a secluded road.

Both women were aged in their early 20s and fought off their attacker and fled, the court heard.

Robertson, of Brooklyn, has been charged with unlawful imprisonment and indecent assault.

He also faces two charges of stalking, two counts of abduction, four counts of unlawful assault and one of recklessly causing injury.

Police arrested Robertson in his home at a caravan park on Tuesday.

He was remanded in custody to face a committal mention hearing in the same court on August 14.
