Murder charge over 1983 death of Vic teen

A Queensland man has been charged with murdering a Melbourne teenager more than 30-years-ago.

The 52-year-old man was a arrested at a home in the inner Brisbane suburb of Spring Hill early on Wednesday morning.

Michelle Buckingham, 16, was last seen leaving the Victoria hotel in Shepparton around 8.30pm on October 21, 1983, walking towards her home.

Her body was found on November 7, 1983, in long grass beside Violet Town Road in Kialla East, with multiple stab wounds to her back and chest.

The Spring Hill man has been charged with one count of murder.

He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where Victorian police will seek his extradition.
