Police divers in Victoria are searching an abandoned mine site that is filled with water for a man who has been missing or more than eight months.

Homicide squad missing persons unit detectives are investigating the suspicious disappearance of 48-year-old Ricky Lee Ganly in April 2013.

Search and rescue divers are searching the 20m deep mine on Avoca-Dunolly Road, near Avoca, in the state’s Central Highlands.

Police say Mr Ganly, from Deer Park, was last seen by his girlfriend at his Doherty Street home about on April 28 last year.

He has not accessed his bank accounts or been seen since.
