Jetstar’s new Dreamliner is Bali-bound

Jetstar’s new Boeing 787 Dreamliner has departed on its inaugural Melbourne to Denpasar flight.

Wednesday’s launch makes Jetstar the first scheduled 787 operator into Indonesia.

Jetstar also announced on Wednesday that the 787 will begin flights between Brisbane and Bali from April 16, 2014, and the aircraft will service the Sydney to Bali route in January and the Sydney to Phuket route in February.

The airline expects to have four 787s operating on international routes by April 2014.

“Today’s inaugural international 787 flight is a pivotal milestone for Jetstar, marking a new dawn in the history of our long-haul operations,” Jetstar Australia and New Zealand CEO David Hall said in a statement.

Jetstar’s existing fleet of A330 aircraft will be replaced by 787s by the end of 2015.

The A330s will be transferred to Qantas, following a refit of the cabins.
