Adelaide Zoo has thrown a double birthday bash for its much-loved giant pandas Wang Wang and Fu Ni.

Fu Ni turned 10 years old on August 23, while Wang Wang will celebrate his 11th birthday on Wednesday.

To celebrate the duo’s big day, Adelaide Zoo has thrown an “epic birthday celebration” which will see the two pandas be treated to specially prepared panda treats, complete with birthday cakes, presents and decorations.

Adelaide Zoo senior panda keeper Simone Davey said this was the sixth birthday Wang Wang and Fu Ni have celebrated in Australia since arriving at the zoo in 2009.

“Wang Wang and Fu Ni are still very young and very playful pandas, so they are definitely in for a lot of fun at the party,” she said.

“As keepers, we form incredibly close bonds with the animals in our care, so it’s always wonderful to be able to share special days like this with Wang Wang and Fu Ni.”

Wang Wang and Fu Ni are part of an international giant panda research, conservation and breeding program.

Adelaide Zoo has unsuccessfully tried to breed Fu Ni with her male counterpart, Wang Wang, five times in the past.
