One man has been charged and three remain on the run after a 23-year-old man was attacked in a gym car park in south Brisbane and stabbed to death.

The victim, identified in media reports as Levi Johnson, succumbed after being chased by four men to the corner of Pine Mountain and Creek roads at Mansfield on Monday afternoon.

A man who was arrested near the scene not long after the stabbing has been charged with weapon offences.

Stuart Galloway, a 34-year-old East Brisbane man, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody to reappear on September 29.

His charges relate to items found at a Carindale residence and form part of the ongoing homicide investigation.

Meanwhile, a manhunt continued on Tuesday for the three other men after newly obtained CCTV footage revealed four men – not five – were involved in the attack, police confirmed.

Taskforce Maxima, a specialist police unit focused on outlaw bikie gangs, is involved in the investigation.

Security cameras captured the attack, which police described as graphic and confronting.

A Black Audi hatchback initially blocked the dead man’s car in a gym car park before a white Nissan patrol rammed his car from the opposite side.

Five men got out of the cars and started smashing the windows of the victim’s car before he escaped through a passenger door and ran off.

Two men chased him to a nearby street, where he was stabbed multiple times.

Four men fled the scene in the 4WD, while the fifth ran away before being tracked down by police dogs.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said the attack, which happened in front of passers-by, was deeply concerning.

“These males were extremely motivated to hunt this individual down,” he said on Monday.

“This incident was fully captured on CCTV. I have viewed that CCTV, and it is confronting and horrific.

“We don’t know the motive of what’s occurred, whether there was planning involved or whether there was an incident that escalated in the nearby streets.”

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queensland had some of the toughest gang laws in the country.

“That’s very disturbing,” she said of the attack.

“We have our serious organised crime legislation in place, and it’s probably … the strictest in Australia.”
