A Sydney man who posted the words “Game over” on social media alongside two photographs of a luxury hotel room is wanted for the attempted murder of a woman at the same venue two days ago.

Emergency services officers were called to the Primus Hotel in Pitt Street, in Sydney’s CBD, around 11:00pm on Tuesday.

Paramedics say they discovered a woman suffering serious injuries consistent with being hit several times with a hammer.

On Wednesday evening, NSW Police launched a manhunt for Sydney man Matthew Donaldson, aged 41.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest on the charge of attempted murder.

At 10:17pm on Tuesday evening, Mr Donaldson posted the words “Game over” to his Facebook page, alongside photographs of the dining area and bathroom of the hotel room.

Neither image showed sign of an assault or struggle, but Mr Donaldson had replied to a comment saying he had “lost” in a game of “life or death”.

“What game were you playing?” a friend asked.

“Life or death, I lost,” Mr Donaldson replied.

Officers raided a home at Kingswood, in Sydney’s west, late on Wednesday afternoon as they continued their search for Mr Donaldson.

Mr Donaldson is thought to be in the Blue Mountains area and is likely carrying a firearm, the spokesperson added.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 182cm tall, solid build, with light brown hair.

The woman, who also suffered bruising to her abdomen, is in a serious condition in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Camperdown.

A police spokesperson confirmed the woman met Mr Donaldson at the hotel, but it was unclear if they were known to each other.

A man describing Mr Donaldson as his best friend commented on the post saying he was “never forthcoming about women or relationships”.

“We gamed together so I never knew this side of him and I am in complete shock still.”
