A man has been charged with murder after a body was found following a house fire in Hobart.

Police and emergency services were called to Sanders Street in the northern suburb of Glenorchy about 7am on Friday after reports a house was on fire.

Tasmania Police Detective Acting Inspector Nick Bowden said a body was found inside the residence.

A 40-year-old New Town man was taken into custody on Friday afternoon and formally charged with murder late on Sunday night.

The man has also been charged with arson, motor vehicle stealing and unlawfully setting fire to property.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday.

Bowden said police were still appealing for information or CCTV footage from anyone who lived between Park Street in North Hobart and Risdon Road in New Town.

“We would like to thank those members of the public who have already come forward and responded to our appeal for assistance,” he said on Sunday.
