John Farnham declared cancer free a year after major surgery

Singer John Farnham has given a major update on his battle with cancer, declaring himself “all clear” of the disease after a year of surgeries and recovery.

Farnham, 74, underwent a 12-hour operation in August 2022 for a cancerous growth in his mouth. Part of his jaw was removed and he also underwent reconstructive surgery.

On Wednesday morning (AEDT) he released a statement sharing that his medical team had last month confirmed he had beaten the cancer.

“I am the luckiest man I know right now. It’s been a year since my first surgery and to be honest I’ve lost count as to how many other procedures there’s been since then,” he said the statement.

“I’m sure someone’s kept track of them all – let’s just say, there’s been a few.”

Farnham said he would mark the “special day” by enjoying a pizza — “because I can”.

“I can’t wait to see what might be next on the menu. Bring on 2024.”

Farnham said he was celebrating the medical milestone at home and very happy and grateful.

“I’m sitting here in my living room lapping up the attention from my beautiful wife, Jill, my boys Rob and James and my mini Schnauzer, Edmund.”

He said he was now beginning to appreciate and comprehend the flood of messages of love and support he had received.

“I don’t know what to say, other than thank you so very much. It honestly means the world to me. Thank you to everyone who took the time to write and send a message.”

In March this year Farnham was rushed back to hospital with a chest infection while he was still recovering from surgery.
