A baby and two young children have miraculously been found alive two days after a car crash that killed both their parents in Western Australia’s wheatbelt region.

The three stranded children were discovered more than 48 hours after the family’s 4WD flipped and crashed on a quiet country road.

The eight-month-old boy was still strapped inside the upturned Landrover Discovery when they were found by a relative around midday on Tuesday.

The two other children, a girl, 5, and boy, 2, were outside the wagon after managing to free themselves from the mangled wreckage.

Tragically, both of their parents Jake Day, 28, and Cindy Braddock, 25, were dead.

WA police said it appeared the 4WD left the road and rolled into bushes about 10 kilometres from their home town of Kondinin, 280 kilometres east of Perth.

The family was reported missing on Boxing Day after failing to return home before dawn on Christmas morning.

Police say they had left Northam at about 1am on Christmas Day, about 200km from their home at Kondinin.

The vehicle was found on its roof at 12pm on Tuesday, about 10km from the family’s property and nearly 60 hours after they were last seen.

Missing for days

Earlier, frantic relatives had posted urgent pleas for help online when the family failed to arrive back.

“My sister and her partner have been missing since Christmas Day,” wrote one relative on Facebook on Boxing Day around 8pm.

“Has anyone seen Jake Day or Cindy Braddock since Christmas day as they left Northam to go home to Kondinin but haven’t made it home and haven’t made contact with anybody since.

“They (also) have 3 young kids.

“Police are currently searching for the family looking into cctv and have the number plate details of the car.”

“A family member actually found the vehicle,” WA Police Inspector Tony Vuleta told reporters on Tuesday.

“Sadly a male and female in their 20s were located deceased. Three children all under the age of five were located with the vehicle.”

Inspector Vuleta said police found a two-month-old baby inside the family’s upturned Landrover Discovery and the two other children outside the station wagon.

“An incident like this is tragic, especially at this time of year,” he said.

The infant suffered serious injuries and is understood to have been flown with the two other children to a Perth hospital for treatment.

Jake’s cousin Michael Read told The West Australian the wheatbelt community would be rocked by the couple’s death.

“They were really good parents, always good to have a joke and a beer with,” Mr Read said.

“They are going to be pretty missed by everybody — not just family and friends but the community as well.

“She was one of those overprotective ones, who wouldn’t let them leave her sight and they’d always want mum.

“Jake was you know, a bubbly person and didn’t really care what people thought. He was just someone you could always get along with.”
