A pair of Sydney mates have narrowly escaped being struck by lighting while taking cover in a boat shed during destructive thunderstorms.

Storms hit the city at the weekend, causing power outages and flash flooding.

Friends Nick Panayiotou and Daniel Dudman, were taking shelter at Oyster Bay and had just decided not to take their metal boat out.

“Dude, don’t go outside,” one of the men can be heard saying on the video.

“No I’m not…,” the other friend replied.

Before he could speak any further – a massive lighting bolt struck the water.

Screams and yelling could be heard from the boat shed: “Oh my God, holy sh**”.

After the incident, Nick told the Seven Network the pair “jinxed themselves” before the lighting strike, contemplating if they were going to get hit while jogging along the jetty.

“We were contemplating the potential risk,” he said.

“We felt [a lot of] static. That I reckon is the scariest thing, we were metres away from it.”
