Video has emerged of a disturbing racial attack at a Melbourne synagogue.

Outside of the busy Adass Synagogue, a man in a red t-shirt is seen screaming at a member of the ultra-orthodox jewish community about being of aboriginal descent.

It is believed members of the Jewish community challenged the man to return a scooter he had stolen, before the man became angry and violent.

“Aboriginal! Go back to Israel!,” he screams.

The Jewish man replies that he was born in Australia, before questioning whether the man in the red t-shirt is actually aboriginal.

The man becomes increasingly angry and continues to scream, “Do you wanna swear to Allah?”, before physically attacking the other man.

Before the police arrive, other members of the Jewish community manage to pin down the man peacefully and hold him as he continues to scream.

The disturbing footage was shared on the Australian Jewish News Facebook page on Thursday evening.

Speaking to Melbourne radio station 3AW, Avi Yemini, founder of IDF training said the Jews’ approach to the situation should be commended.

“The ultra-orthodox won’t talk to general media,” he said.

“But this is a chance for people to see that orthodox community in a genuine light.

“They had the opportunity to pound the guy and they almost had the reason to.

“Most people in our community today probably would have done that.

“But if you watch the video, they took him down nicely and held him down until the police came.”

Jewish News reported the man has since been charged with one count of theft and one count of assault.
