While news broke of Bronwyn Bishop’s resignation as Speaker for misuse of parliamentary travel expenses, another piece of evidence emerged to highlight her over-spending.

The second man on the moon, Buzz Aldrin, travelled into outer space, onto the moon and then back to earth – but only claimed $33.31 in expenses.

Ms Bishop took a helicopter for the 75km journey from Melbourne to Geelong and got taxpayers to foot the $5000 bill.

The 85-year-old former astronaut posted his travel expense voucher on Twitter recently, along with the customs forms he had to fill out to bring pieces of moon rock back to earth.

Aldrin had to get from his home to Cape Kennedy before the mission and then returned via the Pacific ocean and Hawaii, according to The Independent.

In the “schedule of expenses” form he shared on Twitter, you can also see he noted “government meals and quarters” were provided for the journey.

Aldrin, Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins were kept in quarantine for three weeks after they returned to earth from their historic mission to the moon.
