A woman has been arrested and charged following three fire in Queanbeyan overnight.

A woman has been arrested following a string of fires in Queanbeyan, in the early hours of this morning.

The 30-year-old was arrested following a police tip-off from a member of the public.

The first fire was discovered at about 2.15am at a building on Bungendore Road, where wooden pallets and the contents of a metal skip had been set alight.

Firefighters were called in to extinguished the flames, but five minutes later a second fire was discovered at an office building on the corner of Farrer Place and Lowe Street.

Two plastic garbage bins had been set alight.

In both instances, surrounding buildings sustained minor damage.

A short time later, at 2.30am, emergency services were called to a third fire at unit on Foster Street, which was extinguished by a member of the public.

After investigations Queanbeyan Police arrested a woman at a home in Jerrabomberra.

She was charged with three counts of causing damage by fire and will appear in Queanbeyan Local Court on November 24.

Monaro Local Area Command Inspector Tony Hill said information from the public helped police secure the arrest.

“This is a great example where timely information from the public has helped us do our job and make a quick arrest for a serious crime,” he said.
