Commonwealth Bank hit with netbank outage

The Commonwealth Bank’s online portal NetBank has been struck with an outage, with customers unable to access their accounts or transfer money.

The major bank’s smartphone app and online banking facility went down about 8am on Wednesday, according to Aussie Outages.

Customers took to social media to report the major issue, with some complaining of problems with NetBank’s billing payments system and scheduled payments unable to be sent or received.

Users also complained that they could not see some of their NetBank accounts, while News Corp reported the bank’s digital problems also wiped out the balances of home and personal loans and travel money-card accounts.

“We’re aware some customers may be experiencing intermittent issues with NetBank, CommBank app and CommBiz. We know that some merchant terminals are also impacted,” the Commonwealth Bank tweeted.

“For our customers impacted by this issue we are sorry, please be assured we are working on this as a matter of priority. We’ll keep you updated as new information comes to light.”

The Commonwealth Bank also profusely apologised to its customers on social media, saying it aims to solve the issue by 12pm.

“NetBank is temporarily unavailable, and we are working to rectify the issue as soon as possible,” the company said.

“Current ETA is 12PM. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

The news comes as the first hiccup for the major bank since the departure of chief information officer David Whiteing last month.

Mr Whiteing was of the three major executives to be let go by the bank as part of its major restructure under incoming Commonwealth Bank boss Matt Comyn.
