Ghan Expedition: now with more adventure

“The Ghan Expedition” adds an extra day and night to the standard Ghan journey from Darwin to Adelaide, taking guests through the heart of the Australian Outback on a 72-hour adventure that includes enhanced Off Train Excursions in Katherine, more time in Alice Springs for a full day Off Train Excursion and a new Off Train Excursion at Coober Pedy.

The extended service is available as a full Darwin to Adelaide journey for travel between 23 May and 22 August 2015. Guests can immerse themselves in the ancient mysteries of Nitmiluk Gorge in Katherine before embarking on selected Off Train Excursions at Alice Springs. The Alice Springs stop has been extended to a full day to allow for a day and night experience, featuring an Outback BBQ experience under a canopy of stars at the magnificent MacDonnell Ranges. For the first time ever, guests also have the opportunity to upgrade their experience by undertaking a fly-in visit to Uluru, getting back in time to rejoin The Ghan.

At Coober Pedy, guests are invited to ‘scratch under the surface’ of one of the world’s most intriguing travel destinations as part of their all-inclusive Off Train Excursions. With its amazing network of underground buildings which are home to more than half of Coober Pedy’s residents, this opal mining town has plenty to explore. Guests can mine for gems and tour the Outback moonscape that is the stunning Breakaways.

The 2015/16 schedule also introduces a new range of all-inclusive highlights for the year-round Indian Pacific and The Ghan journeys, including unforgettable Outback sunrise and sunset short stops on both trains. These stops offer a unique opportunity to set foot in some of Australia’s most remote and beautiful destinations.

The Sydney to Perth Indian Pacific journey now presents more time to explore South Australia, with the option to undertake an exclusive tour of the world-renowned Barossa Valley and dine in style in Australia’s food and wine capital, Adelaide as part of your all-inclusive journey.
