Josh Hutcherson is the star of an all-new Rickroll that is taking over TikTok, but it’s all thanks to a YouTube fan edit from years ago.

The actor recently starred in the horror film Five Nights at Freddy’s, but he is probably best known for his role as Peeta in The Hunger Games movies, which have also had something of a revival thanks to the release of the prequel.

However, Hutcherson appearing everywhere on TikTok has nothing to do with his acting roles.

For weeks now, Hutcherson’s face has been popping up everywhere in videos, while a cover of Flo Rida’s Whistle plays.

Some people have made videos warning others about what they “found” in a piece of fruit, only for Hutcherson’s face to appear.

His picture even photobombed a a family photo.

It’s sort of like the Rickroll. A video will seem unremarkable, totally ordinary and then you hear the whistle and if you have been online long enough, you know Hutcherson’s face will pop up.

The YouTube video that started it all

The specific picture of Hutcherson used for the trend was originally used in a video uploaded to YouTube in 2014.

The video, simply titled “Josh Hutcherson || Whistle”, features a cover of the Flo Rida song by Joel Merry and was essentially just a series of photos of the actor.

The user who originally uploaded the video, MetroGirlzStation, has acknowledged the nearly decade-old video’s new-found success.

“OMG! I can’t believe this video blew up after all these years. My little sister showed me all the videos on her TikTok and I think it’s hilarious what you guys have done with it,” they wrote in the comments of the YouTube video.

MetroGirlzStation added they had “so much fun” making the edit back in 2014 and it warms their heart there is a new wave of fans “having fun with it”.

The video now has more than six million views on YouTube and MetroGirlzStation credited a TikTok user called Natalie, @hutchers, for sharing the video on TikTok, which has more than five million views now.

Josh Hutcherson responds to the meme

It appears the only person who hasn’t seen the Josh Hutcherson-Whistle edits is Josh Hutcherson.

At what appears to be a sporting game, some fans noticed Hutcherson and asked him what he thought about all the memes.

“I haven’t seen any of it,” he says in the video, while the fans ask him how he has managed to escape his face online.

“I stay off the internet. It scares me,” he responded before walking away and shaking a man’s hand on the field.

The man then turns to the fans in the stands and proclaims “I love that guy”, which is how the internet feels about Hutcherson.

Many people in the comments of the video were lusting over him, while one person said he was the “only man to have no red flags”.
