Getting ready for work meetings is about to be a whole lot easier, thanks to a new filter that is powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and Maybelline make-up.

Maybelline and Microsoft have worked together on a new beauty filter, meaning applying make-up is as simple as hitting a button, as opposed to wearing products on your face.

The Maybelline Beauty app, is available on Microsoft Teams and it will allow people “to adjust their personal style quickly and easily from within a Teams meeting”.

The project was also developed in collaboration with the Geena Davis Institute and aims to represent a “broad and diverse” group of people when it is launched.

There will be 12 looks for people to try out and users will be able to select different digital make-up colours and blur effects.

Users will also be able to preview the look before they “apply” their choice of digital make-up.

“Maybelline has always championed democratising make-up through a combination of our geographical footprint, accessible price point, and inclusive, easy-to-use products suitable for all skill levels,” brand president of Maybelline New York, Trisha Ayyagari said.

“Now, we want to expand our accessibility further by entering the virtual world at scale. Our collaboration with Microsoft Teams will reach millions of people at work, where it’s that much more important to feel confident and to express yourself.”

Filter uses beauty AI

To achieve the digital make-up look, the filter uses artificial intelligence (AI) with the technology is owned by L’Oreal, Maybelline’s parent company.

The Maybelline Beauty app is enabled by Modiface, which is described as an “augmented reality technology for the beauty industry”.

It works by identifying over 70 points of a person’s face to create a “virtual map” that allows for digital features to work, Microsoft said.

In a video shared by Maybelline to promote the partnership Ms Ayyagari said both the make-up giant and Microsoft wanted to make people’s lives easier, while acknowledging everyone had different skills.

While this filter can only be used on Microsoft Teams and not in real-life meetings, it can add a little bit of value to your real-life make-up bag.

The 12 make-up looks come with a full product breakdown, so people can understand what Maybelline products they are virtually using and the shades.

This means you could go out and purchase the products if you like how you look.

The filter is being rolled out globally. Users can either apply the filter before they enter the meeting, or if you’re running late, during the meeting.

The filter can be found under the “Video Effects” option, under the filters category.
