Nostalgia-philes may rejoice at news the Sony Walkman has made a comeback, but they’ll have to fork out more than a thousand dollars to take a trip down memory lane.

The new model will play DSD, WAV, AIFF, FLAC and Apple Lossless format files, and is named the Walkman NW-ZX2.

It offers a few more features than the original model for around eight times the price.

Billed as a high-res audio device offering the optimal listening experience, the ZX2 provides 128GB in storage, a touchscreen display and internet connectivity.

All this for the mind-boggling price of US$1,119.99.

The lofty price is presumably a nod to what Sony describes as “the fruit of continuous refinement in high audio quality technologies”.

While it allows for online streaming and the downloading of apps, don’t confuse the ZX2 with all the smartphones around today – the device is centred entirely around providing flawless, high quality audio.

You might just have to forego food for a month or so to experience it.
