Australian stars Elizabeth Debicki and Sarah Snook have repeated their Golden Globes glory by claiming best actress gongs at the Critics Choice Awards.

Debicki won best supporting actress in a drama series for her role as Diana, Princess of Wales in The Crown.

“I truly did not expect this,” the 33-year-old said on Sunday night at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

“This role has been an incredible gift to me, it has been an incredible challenge, a terrifying challenge and I will always be grateful for it.

“My only hope really was that I would do this remarkable woman proud by playing her in this show.”

She also thanked Khalid Abdalla, who played Dodi Fayed in the series.

“If I did anything good in this show, you are half of it, you are a dear friend,” Debicki said.

Snook’s award capped a big night for TV drama Succession, with the Adelaide native winning best lead actress for her role as Shiv Roy.

“I play dress-ups for a living. What a silly thrill that is,” Snook said in her succinct acceptance speech.

Her Succession co-star, Kieran Culkin, took home the best actor prize after winning a Golden Globe last week for his performance as Roman Roy.

Margot Robbie’s Barbie claimed six awards from its 18 nominations, including best song for I’m Just Ken and best original screenplay.

Robbie lost the best actress award to Emma Stone for her performance in the surreal deranged erotic comedy Poor Things.

Oppenheimer cemented its place as an Oscars favourite, winning eight of its 13 nominations. They included best director for Christopher Nolan, Best Picture and best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr.

The 58-year-old Downey had the audience laughing as he read out critics’ feedback of his performance as Lewis Strauss over the year, including “like Pee Wee Herman emerging from a coma” and “a puzzling waste of talent”.

“I just want to say honestly to my Oppenhomies, every day of filming was like having my ego’s a–e handed to me at the door and it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.”

Oppenheimer won the Critics Choice Award for best acting ensemble.

British star Emily Blunt said: “I love that we’re calling this an ensemble and we’re very grateful, but most of us were part-timers that gathered around this completely riveting fire of Cillian Murphy. Truly.”

“It’s impossible to find the words being in this force field of a movie has imprinted upon us, we have Christopher Nolan to thank for that.
