Singer Celine Dion has reportedly reportedly lost control of some of her mobility as she battles a devastating rare health condition.

Dion’s sister Claudette shared the grim update to a French magazine this week.

“She doesn’t have control over her muscles,” she told 7 Jours.

“What pains me is that she has always been disciplined. She always worked hard.”

Dion revealed a year ago she has stiff-person syndrome – a progressive neurological disorder that affects the brain and the spinal cord. Earlier this year it forced the Canadian superstar to cancel a world tour because of the difficulties of performing while enduring the condition.

“The spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to,” she said at the time.

“I have to admit it’s been a struggle. All I know is singing, it’s what I’ve done all my life.”

Claudette Dion said she and her sister dreamed of one day returning to the stage.

“In what capacity? I don’t know,” she said.

“The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle. This is what gets me.”

Stiff-person syndrome causes muscle rigidity and increased sensitivity to sound, touch and emotional stimuli that can trigger spasms. The condition is considered rare, affecting about one in a million people.

In October 2021, the condition also led the multiple Grammy winner to postpone her Las Vegas residency.

Her most recent tour – Dion’s first in the US in 10 years — kicked off in Quebec City in September 2019.

It was accompanied by the release of her latest album Courage. The album title was inspired by the 2016 death from throat cancer of Dion’s husband and manager Rene Angelil.

The couple had three children.

Two days after losing Angelil died, Celine and Claudette’s brother Daniel, also died from cancer.

Celine has spent much of the past three years out of sight. She was last seen in public for Katy Perry’s Las Vegas residency at the Resorts World Theatre. Dion had also been scheduled to play there, but cancelled her appearances two years ago.

Speaking about the rarity of stiff-person syndrome, Claudette Dion said, “There are some people who have lost hope because it is a disease that is not known. If you only knew how many calls we receive at the foundation to hear from Céline!”

“People tell us they love her and pray for her. She receives so many messages, gifts, blessed crucifixes,” she said.
