Dame Maggie Smith may be 88 years old, but the screen legend proved she still knows how to work a camera in a recent fashion campaign.
The actor, arguably best known for her role as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter franchise, struck a pose for Spanish fashion house Loewe.
Alternating between faux-fur coats and silk dresses, Smith posed with Loewe’s iconic bags front and centre for the brand’s spring 2024 pre-collection campaign.
Snapped by German photographer Juergen Teller, the campaign also features actors Dakota Fanning, Josh O’Connor, Greta Lee and Mike Faist, artist Rachel Jones, boy band NCT member Taeyong and model Fei Fei Sun.
The campaign was not a typical studio-bound glamour shoot.
But Smith’s pictures appeared to make the biggest splash online, with regular fans and celebrities alike quick to express their shock – and excitement – at seeing the Downton Abbey star take on high fashion.
“This has luxury written all over it. That’s how it’s done, people!!” commented one Instagram user.
“It’s so perfect,” Heartstopper actor Sebastian Croft commented alongside a crying emoji.
The Oscar winner might be inching closer to 100, but her career appears far from over.
Apart from her modelling gig, Smith was also recently seen in The Miracle Club, a film released earlier this year that followed a group of working-class women from Ireland on a pilgrimage to France.
Smith’s co-star Laura Linney told IndieWire everyone was intimidated by the legendary actor, but she adored her.

“I learned so much from her, and she’s a creature of the theatre, and she has a diamond-like actor brain,” Linney said.
“She can see through a story and understand the narrative and what is required better than anyone I’ve ever seen.
“It’s clean, it’s clear, and she’s just piercingly accurate, and she’s able to not only have the ideas she has but then she can execute it.
“A lot of times people have these great ideas, and they can’t pull it off, and she’s just as sharp in both of those areas as you can be. She’s precise, wildly funny, hilariously funny, and [co-star Kathy Bates is] amazing.”
Smith also released her memoir, You Could Make This Place Beautiful, in April.
Smith’s next appearance on screen is set to be in A German Life, where she will reprise the role she played on stage in the original play.
