Paul McCartney to bring Got Back tour to Australia

Sir Paul McCartney announces Australian tour

Paul McCartney is returning to Australia, taking his tour to where it all started for The Beatles in Australia.

The music legend made the surprise announcement on Tuesday that he planned to head Down Under for the first time since 2017, taking his Got Back tour to five cities – and fans have only weeks to wait.

“I’ve got so many amazing memories of my time in Australia over the years. Our last trip was so much fun. We had such an incredible time,” Sir Paul said.

“Each show was a party so we know this is going to be incredibly special. Australia we are going to rock! I can’t wait to see you.”

The Australian-leg of the tour will start in Adelaide on October 18. Adelaide was also the first Australian city to host The Beatles in 1964 – when an estimated 350,000 fans lined the streets from the airport to Town Hall to see them as they drove by.

Sir Paul will then head to Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast.

When and where is Sir Paul McCartney playing in Australia?

Tickets for the Got Back tour go on sale on August 11, although Frontier Members will have access to a presale on August 9, with times staggered.

Sir Paul will be in Australia from October until November. His first show is at Adelaide’s Entertainment Centre on October 18, and the last on the Gold Coast on November 4.

Australia tour dates:

  • October 18 Entertainment Centre, Adelaide
  • October 21 Marvel Stadium, Melbourne
  • October 24 McDonald Jones, Newcastle
  • October 27 Allianz Stadium, Sydney
  • November 1 Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
  • November 4 Heritage Bank Stadium, Gold Coast

The Got Back tour

Sir Paul’s Got Back tour kicked off in the US back in 2022 with 16 shows; he then headlined Glastonbury Festival in 2022.

On tour, Sir Paul does a duet with his former Beatles bandmate, John Lennon, all thanks to modern technology.

Australians can expect Sir Paul’s long-time bandmates to join him on stage, including Paul “Wix” Wickens on the keyboards, Brian Ray on the bass and guitar, Rusty Anderson on the guitar and Abe Laboriel Jr on the drums.

The tour will be Sir Paul’s first Australian dates in six years.

He hasn’t been in Australia since December 17. That tour won him a 2018 Helpmann Award for best international contemporary concert.

His sets back then lasted nearly three hours.

The Got Back tour has received rave reviews overseas and the Australian leg is being touted as a “lifetime event” that is not to be missed.
