Matildas stunning victory

Stand-in Matildas captain Steph Catley had Australia in awe after she scored a penalty against Ireland in their opening World Cup match.

The goal gave Australia a 1-0 win despite captain and star striker Sam Kerr being ruled out due to a calf injury ahead of the game.

Commonwealth games axed

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced the 2026 Commonwealth Games would be cancelled.

The decision was made due to costing some $6 billion for Victoria to host the games.

Hundreds evacuate in Switzerland

Hundreds living in Switzerland’s mountain villages were forced to evacuate this week after authorities struggled to contain a forest fire.

Helicopters worked to subdue the blaze as most of Europe suffered through an intense heatwave.

Fan plays Land Down Under for Lizzo

A fan at Lizzo’s concert in Perth stunned the audience and the superstar by playing Land Down Under on the flute.

Lizzo gave the fan her flute to play the opening notes to the song, while she looked delighted and danced along on stage.

Wolf puppies parkour

Some wolf puppies tried their hand at parkour and while they can’t jump too high just yet, the results were very cute.

The wolves tried to jump over a piece of wood, only for a few to lose their footing.

Celebrating golden retrievers

Golden retrievers marked 155 years of the breed, with hundreds gathering in Scotland near ruins of the Guisachan House.

The breed was established in 1868 in Scotland and the same thing happened to mark 150 years of golden retrievers five years ago.

Mother bear needs a break

A mother bear seemingly wanted a little alone time from her cubs this week. A TikToker in Alaska spotted a mother bear with her young cubs, who were all whining.

Most parents will be able to understand the need of getting a little space from kids, and that’s what this bear tried to do, only for her cubs to follow her.

Sound up. My coolest bear encounter to date. Mama bear forgot we were there and was deceptively chill. #alaska #mamabear #bearcub #babyanimals #wildlife
