The son of a Swiss millionaire has destroyed his luxury Ferrari so his father would buy him the brand new model.

The 20-year-old thought up the ruse with three friends and paid them $15,000 to burn the car in Germany, while he was at a massage parlour, 20 Minutes reported.

His plan was foiled when security footage caught his friends setting fire to the car.

The Ferrari he torched is worth $335,000.

Reports said the son wanted to force his Dad, a rich businessman from Zurich, to buy him the latest Ferrari 488 GTB to replace his 458 Italia.

He had already been bought around 15 cars by his Dad, including a Lamborghini. His allowance is reportedly $10,000 a month.

At the trial, the son said he had spent his whole allowance at the time of the fire, and did not have the heart to tell his dad.

He was sentenced to 22 months probation and fined $45,000.
