Here are some viral stories you may have missed this week.

Fire truck goes for a spin

The icy roads in Missouri led to a fire truck spinning out of control on a suburban street.

The horrifying incident was captured on camera and the vehicle manages to just miss sliding into trees, houses and cars.

The Rock Community Fire Protection put out a statement after the video went viral, confirming no one was injured.

“While the situation was undoubtedly harrowing, it underscores the exemplary professional capabilities and training of our personnel,” the statement said.

“The adeptness displayed by the apparatus operator in making swift decisions and maintaining composure is truly commendable and unequivocally prevented a much more serious outcome.”

A rat hole no more

Chicago’s “rat hole” became an overnight celebrity, thanks to a tweet.

The hole in the pavement, which people believe is shaped like a rat, though it might take the shape of a squirrel, has been there for many years.

However, according to NBC News, viral interest in the hole began on January 6 this year, thanks to a post on X.

People are now gathering around the rat hole, throwing parties and drinking, while one couple got married next to it.

Naturally, the people who live near the hole weren’t too happy about the fuss.

“I told someone it felt like I was living on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, because people were out there drinking, yelling, playing music and taking pictures of drugs on the ground next to the rat hole for clout,” one woman told NBC News.

However, the hole is no longer. Potentially due to the crowds, the hole has now been filled. Some people are even placing offerings next to where it used to be.

RIP, rat hole.

Six-legged dog gets surgery

Ariel, a six-legged puppy, was found abandoned in a supermarket carpark when she was quite young. She was taken in by Greenacres Rescue and eventually found a foster family.

In addition to her two extra back limbs, Ariel also had an extra vulva, two hip joints on one side, one kidney and a pelvis that never formed properly, the BBC reported.

She recently had surgery to remove the extra legs, which was successful.

“The next day she was up, walking around and eating and drinking,” Mikey Lawlor, founder and manager of Greenacres Rescue, told the BBC.

“Now we just need to keep our fingers crossed she doesn’t get any infections, but she really is in the best hands.”

Baby giraffe gains fans

Baby giraffes might just be the cutest things to ever exist.

On January 1, 2024, Korbel was born at Fort Worth Zoo, but he was only introduced to the world recently through social media.

Less than a month old, Korbel already stands at 190.5cm and weighs around 75kg.

“He is bonding well with mom, Corrie, and has started to meet his other herd members,” the zoo said on social media.

“It is still too cold for Korbel to be outside, so he will stay in the barn for now. This has given him many opportunities to interact with enrichment.”

Korbel’s name is a nod to a champagne company, because he was born on New Year’s Day.
