Users have reported that two models of Samsung phones are sending private photos to contacts without permission.

Customers have taken to Reddit and Samsung forums to report that their photos had been sent to their contacts with no trace in the Samsung Messages app to prove it happened.

The apparent bug appears to be affecting Samsung’s newest smartphones, the Galaxy S9+ and S9, as well as the Note 8, which was released last year.

One user who owns a Galaxy S9 model, said his entire photo gallery was sent to his girlfriend last week while he was sleeping.

“There was no record of it on my messages app. However, there was a  record of it on T-Mobile logs,” he said in a post on social media site Reddit.

Another user said his Galaxy S6 sent a private photo to more than 10 of his contacts on WhatsApp.

One user on Samsung’s community forum said the messaging app had become “very buggy” after a T-Mobile update.

“Scheduled messages are sent prematurely, scheduled text messages end up in wrong threads. Messaging incorrectly displays scheduled messages as “sent” when, in fact, the other party has not received them,” the user said.

Troubleshooters have suggested a temporary fix for the issue including completely ditching the Samsung Messages app for an alternative Android messaging app.

Others suggested revoking permissions to access your phone’s media and removing all photos from your device.

Samsung Australia has been contacted for comment.
