Rhonda Spagnol, has joined building industry fund Cbus as head of property after serving as  co-head of property at JANA Investment Advisers.

She is charged with strategy development and oversight in the property sector. She will report to Grant Harrison who serves as private markets portfolio head.

The appointment is one of a number that have seen the $43 billion fund build more investment capacity in-house.

Cbus said Ms Spagnol’s responsibilities include the execution of indirect strategies via external fund managers; portfolio construction and capital allocation and the management of pooled fund exposures.

Working closely with Cbus Property, she will also play a key role in the development of an offshore investment strategy.

“We are very pleased to have Rhonda on board. Her extensive property and consulting experience means she is a valuable addition not just for the private markets team, but also the broader Cbus investment team,” Mr Harrison said.

“Cbus is at an exciting phase of its internalisation strategy and I am thrilled to be joining the team.  Cbus has a strong focus on the built environment and as a property specialist I share that passion,” Ms Spagnol said.

” I’m looking forward to driving further initiatives in the asset class and contributing to the delivery of sound investment returns for members,” Ms Spagnol said.

Late last year Cbus announced the appointments. Patricia Lindenboim was appointed as head of strategy and investment innovation in its Sydney office. Elizabeth Weston joined Cbus in a new  role as head of legal and governance in the investment area based in Melbourne.

Long time equity analyst and portfolio manager Sanjay Magotra was been appointed as an equities portfolio manager in the Melbourne office.
