Pauline Vamos joins Mercer Superannuation board

Former Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia CEO Pauline Vamos has joined the board of Mercer Superannuation (Australia), effective from July 1.

Mercer Super chair Jan Swinhoe, said, “we are thrilled to welcome Pauline to the Board. Her appointment delivers a strong message that we are committed to building our expertise in the superannuation space.”

Ben Walsh, Managing Director & CEO of Mercer Australia,said Ms Vamos brings an impressive range of experience, attributes, and skills to the Board.

Having worked with industry bodies, regulators and super funds, Ms Vamos has an unparalleled knowledge of the superannuation industry and an understanding of the issues that are most important to clients and members, Mr Walsh said.

Upon joining the Board, Ms Vamos said, “Mercer’s acquisition of Pillar Administration and partnership with Virgin Money have created a real buzz in the superannuation industry. As a highly regarded provider of holistic services for the industry,  Mercer is also uniquely positioned at a time when many funds are reviewing  their merger and consolidation options in light of the changing regulatory and competitive environment. It’s an exciting time to join the Board.”

Ms Vamos has held a number of executive and directorial positions within the financial services industry. Previous positions include Chief Executive Officer at the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) and director of financial services regulation – licensing and business operations at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

Ms Vamos is a qualified lawyer and a previous member of the peak advisory and consultative groups on pension and superannuation reform for federal, state and local Governments.

She has been voted  ‘most influential in the financial services industry’ by Money Management as well as ‘most influential in the superannuation industry’ by Super Review.

In 2013, Ms Vamos was recognised as one of the ‘Australian Financial Review and Westpac 100 Women of Influence’. She was also awarded the Superannuation Executive of the Year in the Women in Financial Services Awards 2016. In that same year, Ms Vamos was elected an ASFA Life Member in recognition of long-standing service to ASFA and the superannuation industry.

“The superannuation industry is facing fierce disruption and regulatory change, and we need to be at the forefront to ensure that delivery to our clients is being overseen by the best talent the industry has to offer. Pauline’s appointment adds to the appointments of Jan Swinhoe, Melinda Snowden, John Gee, Sue O’Connor and Darren Wickham during the past three years,” Mr Walsh said.
