Give your home a facelift … for less

When it comes to giving your home’s façade a facelift there are sound options for a variety of budgets.

And they range from a coat of paint to adding another element or material to your street face such as a pot plant or a sculpture.

Burbank Homes displays presentation co-ordinator Jacqui Mallia says it’s ironic that while the façade is the only part of the home many see, it’s often the most neglected.

Pergolas: The retro home trend makes a comeback

“There are so many ways to give your facade a makeover – from permanent fixtures and renovations, to easy do-it-yourself (DIY) updates that can be done instantly,’’ Ms Mallia says.

“If you have the budget and you’re looking to overhaul the entire look of your exterior, you could consider adding another element, such as an accent tile to a column.

“Timber is always a great addition to a facade. It has great street appeal and creates a welcoming feel for guests. If you’re interested in incorporating timber, decking or wall cladding is a great way to do it.’’

But the Burbank spokesperson says homeowners want something quick and easy over the weekend would be “be surprised at the difference a coat of paint to gutters, downpipes and windows can make”.

“Whether it’s changing the colour completely, or just freshening up the existing colour, it’s one of those little one-percenters that adds huge aesthetic value,’’ she says.

Ms Mallia says employing a bit of greenery can also boast your street face.

“If you want something easier again, try simply adding a beautifully potted plant or a sculpture to the front of your home,’’ she says.

“Not only can plants be used to add interest, they can also be used to cleverly disguise any elements that aren’t visually pleasing like chipped brickwork or faded paint, for example.’’

Another option is to replace the front door.

“Changing the front door can totally change the appearance of your façade,’’ Ms Mallia says.

“There are so many different options available, but timber is always a great choice if you want to add warmth and create a welcoming vibe.’’
