Is this new Galaxy tablet better than the iPad Air?
Samsung is set to release a new flagship tablet, the Galaxy Tab S, which some tech critics are saying could be better than the iPad Air.
The incredibly light tablet will come in two sizes, a 10.4 inch model and an 8.4 inch model, both just 6.6 millimeters thick – thinner than the iPad Air at 7.5 millimetres.
Revealed at a launch in New York this morning, the super high resolution screen is one of the major drawcards to this new tablet.
Samsung have used the same “Super AMOLED” screen as on the Galaxy S5 phone, which is widely called the best in the market, on these tablets for the first time. This means the resolution is now 2560×1600.
It will be available in either 16 or 32 GB of built in memory with an extra 128 GB with a microSD card.
Forbes’ review says it is a “massively powerful” tablet, with a fast processor and 3GB of RAM, showing Samsung is not cutting corners on speed and power.
There is a “fingerprint scanner” which allows users to unlock the device with one of three enrolled fingerprints. It also allows secure payment with things like PayPal.
Here’s what the company said on social media about its new premium product.

You can multitask with #SideSync during calls or forward them from a #GALAXYS5 to your #GALAXYTabS.

After weeks of leaks about the Galaxy Tab S, responses to the new tablet were quick to appear online.
Ok, so here’s my feeling on fingerprint scanners. Nice for extra security, but I can rarely get it to unlock on the first try. #GalaxyTabS

Just a note, that the #GalaxyTabS‘ multi window tool has been around on phones and tablets. SideSync, too, but it’s underutilized. @CNET

Samsung’s talk of screen reflectance is also very important, and a real prob that it’s been tackling across its mobile line. #GalaxyTabS
