Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenneger has told President Donald Trump the pair should swap jobs so Americans can again “sleep at night”.

Mr Schwarzenegger was responding to an extraordinary attack on him by Mr Trump — at a National Prayer Breakfast no less — over the ratings of the latest series of The Apprentice, of which the former bodybuilder is the host.

Mr Trump asked the audience to pray for the man who took over from him on The Apprentice, so his ratings would go up.

“They hired a big, big movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to take my place,” Mr Trump said.

“We know how that turned out. The ratings went right down the tubes. It’s been a total disaster … I wanna just pray for Arnold if we can …”
In response Mr Schwarzenegger then urged Mr Trump to go back to reality TV so “people can finally sleep comfortably again”.

The Terminator star and former Republican governor of California hit back via a video posted to Twitter.

The actor responded in the video clip, saying: “Hey Donald, I have a great idea — why don’t we switch jobs?

“You take over TV, because you’re such an expert in ratings, and I take over your job, and then people can finally sleep comfortably again, hmm?”

Austrian immigrant Mr Schwarzenegger, who has previously said President Trump’s ban on refugees “makes us look stupid”, is the latest Hollywood name to lock horns with the new president.

The pair have been involved in a public spat since the show changed hands.
