Location, location, location: The Bachelorette finalists chosen

The Bachelorette‘s penultimate instalment was more like an episode of The Block than a reality dating show – it all came down to the location.

Georgia Love sent 30-year-old sales professional Jake Ellis packing because he was from the exotic locale of Brisbane – much too far from Georgia’s preferred nesting ground of Melbourne.

It’s unsurprising, really, that Georgia wants to be close to home – this week it was revealed her mother had entered palliative care in her battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jake, too, values proximity to his family – his mother has battled cancer five times.

“I don’t wanna be putting pressure on anyone that if you wanna be with me, you have to move states,” Georgia told the camera, before doing just that to Jake.

Jake managed to sufficiently dodge her line of questioning, telling her “I’ve always wanted to live in Melbourne”, and dismissing the whole thing as “a bigger conversation”.

Jake will unfortunately be having that conversation all alone back in his room in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, finalist Lee Elliott, a plumber from Melbourne, has location and good looks on his side, but Georgia still wasn’t satisfied. She doubted whether he liked her for her personality or for her convenient location.

“We had such a good time in Melbourne and I can so see how our lives would work so seamlessly, but I think what I want to know is, you know, what if I wasn’t from Melbourne? Would it be the same if I wasn’t?” Georgia asked Lee.

“If I was from Brisbane, do you think we’d be in the position we’re in now?”

Why don’t you ask Jake, Georgia? He should be pretty well-versed in the difficulties of distance by now.

In the end, it didn’t really matter where anyone lived because along came Matty Johnson, the dark horse from Sydney who sealed the deal with a spa session steamier than a really hot shower.

Matty’s suave spa moves and brave declaration – “I’m completely falling in love with you” – immediately catapulted him to fan favourite over Lee, who has been the frontrunner for the whole season.

Even though Matty lives in the less-than-desirable Sydney.

Let’s face it, when you look that good in a jacuzzi, who cares where you live?

Looks like Georgia Love could soon be hosting the Channel Ten news from Sydney.
