John Oliver offers Donald Trump his Emmy Award
John Oliver has offered Donald Trump his Emmy. But there’s one small catch.
The Last Week Tonight host will hand over the statuette in return for Mr Trump accepting the result of the presidential election on November 8 so Mr Trump can walk away with something and not feel like a “loser”.
Oliver was lampooning Mr Trump over his recent comments that he might not accept the election results if Hillary Clinton wins.
“It increasingly seems like if Donald Trump loses, we are not going to get the concession speech that the country badly needs, because he is medically incapable of accepting that he is a loser,” Oliver said.
“So we need to find a way for him to give a concession speech while he’s still able to claim that he won something.”
Oliver then hauled out the Emmy from under his desk, and teased the Republican candidate.
“She’s so shiny,” Oliver said, petting the award.
“Take the bet, Donald. Take the f***ing bet.
“Of course he wants an Emmy,” he went on.
Watch the Oliver ultimatum
Oliver’s offer drew a link between Mr Trump’s claims some years ago that the Emmys were rigged — explaining why his reality show, The Apprentice, didn’t win and which Ms Clinton raised during the final presidential debate last week — and his assertion that the election was rigged against him.
Oliver, won the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series in September.
