Tom Gleeson is far more used to being the quizmaster than sitting in the hot seat.

As the host of new ABC series Hard Quiz, Gleeson is responsible for directing highly challenging queries at nervous contestants and giving them hell when they can’t answer them correctly.

The show is inspired by Gleeson’s regular ‘Hard Chat’ segment on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering, in which he subjects his famous guests, including Bill Shorten and Kevin Rudd, to a brutal grilling.

While Gleeson is a little softer on his Hard Quiz contestants, who aren’t as used to the limelight as his political interviewees, he still manages to deliver his trademark zingers.

The contestants are then given the chance to redeem themselves when answering specialty questions from their chosen “expert topic”.
