Richie Strahan is yet to whittle his harem down to one on this season of The Bachelor, but Network Ten has already unveiled another group of contestants looking for love.

And if The Bachelorette‘s teaser is anything to go by, we’re in for an interesting first episode, with one suitor bringing a small donkey with him.

Timed so that viewers won’t need to suffer awkward dating show withdrawals, The Bachelorette will hit screens soon after its gender-reversed stablemate concludes in a few weeks.

Former WIN news reporter Georgia Love is the show’s conveniently-named bachelorette, but now viewers can begin to acquaint themselves with the likes of miner Ben, industrial designer Courtney and marketing manager Matty J.

This year’s list includes a pair of good friends and a former Disney Channel presenter who might be able to swap career tips with Love.

Lining up for Love

Love will have her pick of 16 eager bachelors, ranging in age from 26 to 35.

Comparatively, just one of Richie Strahan’s remaining five bachelorettes is over the age of 30: 31-year-old support worker Rachael.

Reading like a Le Carre novel, the group of shiny-suited men include a sailor, firefighter, wellness coach and plumber – no spies to be seen, though.

And in case viewers were wondering why anyone would submit themselves to a reality dating show, 29-year-old medical sales rep Clancy provided a clue.

“I am looking for a partner and I’m ready for that next stage in my life,” he said in a statement to the network.

“In the past few years of my life I’ve played things relatively safe and haven’t taken many risks, so I think this was an opportunity to see where things took me.”

Queensland is the most represented state, with six bachelors vying for 28-year-old Love’s affections.

South Australia has but one competitor, but he did offer a fascinating insight into why he chose to take the plunge.

Watch the teaser below:

“I think when things present themselves they’re there for a reason,” wellness coach Jay said.

Victoria is represented by 33-year-old entrepreneur Carlos, 35-year-old mechanical plumber Lee and 29-year-old security specialist Matt D, while Western Australia has coughed up two eager options.

Love is looking for … love

Love, who quit her job as a newsreader for WIN in Hobart, said she wanted to find a man she wanted to be with after the cameras turned off.

“If you can strip [all the fireworks] back and still the get the butterflies when that person walks through the door, that’s what I want. That’s what I’m looking for,” she said.

She told The Herald Sun it was dealing with her mother’s cancer diagnosis and a break-up that made he realise she wanted someone to “support” her through thick and thin.

“I gave up work to do this which was a huge decision for me,” she said.

“The job that I had, the career I was in, I had worked extremely hard to get there.

“So to decide to do that was massive, but it was a life-changing moment, and I went for it.”

*The Bachelorette will premiere on September 21 at 7.30pm.
