Is this TV’s most awkward moment of 2016?

Channel Nine weather reporter Rebecca Judd and a male colleague shared an awkward encounter after he tried to kiss her on live television.

The uncomfortable moment occurred when Nine News anchor Peter Hitchener gave Judd a send-off ahead of her maternity leave on Monday night.

“We’ll miss you but of course everyone in the newsroom sends much love and very best wishes,” Hitchener told Judd.

“Oh thank you,” Judd, who is pregnant with twins, responded. “I’ll miss you all too. Wish me luck, I’m going to need it.”

It was then that sports anchor Tony Jones, who had wandered into the frame for Judd’s farewell and put his arm around the mother of two, interjected.

“I’ll tell you, the Carlton supporters are very excited,” Jones said, referring to Judd’s husband, AFL footballer Chris Judd, the former Carlton Football Club skipper.

“Well, they should be!” Judd shot back, before Jones leaned in to kiss her on the cheek in a gesture of farewell.

Judd, however, was not interested in receiving the show of affection from Jones, recoiling in mock shock and horror and forcing him to pull away.

Comments on social media have described the incident as “an epic fail”.

Judd laughed off the kiss on social media, taking to Instagram to thank Jones and Hitchener “for the laughs”.

“Okaaaaaaaaay then 😂. Final weather bulletin before maternity leave didn’t quite go to plan but as always, thanks to my wonderful @9newsmelbourne family for the laughs,” Judd wrote.

This wasn’t the first time Jones and Judd have shared a cringe-worthy moment on air.

Earlier this year, Judd was delivering a weather report when Jones suggested they should have a barbecue to celebrate the warm weather.

“No thanks,” Judd responded.
