When Sunrise host Edwina Bartholomew attended this year’s star-studded Oscars ceremony, she probably didn’t expect to outrank the celebrities as the most-talked-about topic on Google.

However, while Sydney-based Bartholomew’s hosting skills were impressive, it was her choice of gown that stole attention from the show’s famous attendees.

The 32-year-old’s pale purple frock by Australian designer Rachel Gilbert quickly became a laughing stock on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram as people pointed out it resembled a particular part of the female anatomy.

“Nice but why is there a uterus on your dress?” one Instagram commenter pointed out.

“Lose the vajayjay and it would have been perfect,”a Facebook user wrote.

Bartholomew’s boyfriend, journalist Neil Varcoe, then pointed out the dress had become the number one trending story on Google in Australia, ahead of Australian Oscar winner Jenny Beavan and Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

“My girlfriend’s vagina is trending number one on Google right now #vajayjaygate,” he tweeted on Tuesday.

“Thanks honey #vaggoals,” Bartholomew playfully responded on Twitter.

The Channel Seven presenter also appeared on the Kyle and Jackie O show on KIIS FM and laughed off the furore.

“I went through the whole day without anyone saying ‘you’ve got a vagina on your dress!” she said.

“I did know they might call it ‘the vagina dress’ and I still wore it anyway!”.
