Cricket legend Shane Warne has faced numerous challenges, but nothing would compare to an angry anaconda in the South African jungle.

Network Ten confirmed the Aussie spin king had sustained a nasty snake bite on the reality show I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!, after completing a food challenge on Thursday night’s episode.

The challenge saw Warne fall face first into a container of rats to retrieve a food star within, followed by a pile of snakes which contained a prize.

Host Dr Chris Brown warned Warne that with rat odour on his skin, the snakes could easily confuse him for dinner. As he lowered himself into the box one of the reptiles struck, leaving the cricketer in agony.

News Ltd reports that medics on the scene treated the bite with an antiseptic, while Warne was left with some small marks from the bite but no permanent scarring.

Anacondas are not venomous but have developed a reputation for squeezing their prey to death.

“Shane has made no secret that snakes are one of his greatest fears so it’s amazing that after being bitten he bravely continued with the trial,” executive producer Stephen Tate told the Daily Telegraph.

“When Shane puts his mind to a task, he won’t let anything stop him.”

Warne has dealt with numerous obstacles on the reality program, including boxes filled with African clawed frogs, scorpions and Madagascan hissing cockroaches.

It’s been a difficult week for contestants on the program, with veteran actor Val Lehman collapsing earlier in the week after winning a difficult Tug of War challenge. Medics will continue to monitor Warne for signs of infections.
