Dark Game of Thrones season six trailers released

The sixth season of HBO series Game of Thrones begins on April 24 this year and, for once, everyone will be in the dark.

With news that the new season of the show will hit screens before author George R.R. Martin’s next book hits shelves, no one has any idea what to expect.

Except, of course, showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff who have the fates of characters like Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow in their hands.

On Saturday, Weiss and Benioff gave eager fans an idea of what to expect when HBO released three small teaser trailers on Twitter.

The three trailers merely show the battle flags of the Westeros’ three most powerful families – the Lannisters, the Targaryens and the Starks.

Here’s what the trailers tell us about our favourite families in the Seven Kingdoms.

The Lannisters

The Lannister trailer reminds of us of Cersei’s walk of shame through King’s Landing thanks to the recurring refrain of “shame” throughout.

A voice that seems to belong to the High Sparrow (leader of the faith militant currently ruling King’s Landing) hints at a sinister fate for Westeros’ former most powerful family.

“Every one of us is poor and powerless and yet together we can overthrow an empire,” the Sparrow says.

Watch your back, Cersei and co.

The Targaryens

This trailer does not bode well for the Queen of Dragons.

A Dothraki voice can be heard berating someone we can only assume is Daenerys Targaryen, a former Khaleesi who speaks fluent Dothraki.

“You are nobody, the millionth of your name, queen of nothing,” a man says.

We last saw Dany encircled by Dothraki tribesmen, abandoned by her dragon and totally unprotected. It now seems as though her former role as Queen when married to Khal Drogo won’t protect her.

Dany could be in big trouble.

The Starks

Of course it’s to be expected the most depressing trailer belongs to the House of Stark.

There are barely any original Starks left and from what we can gather from this trailer, the remaining Starks are not long for this world.

“Winterfell is mine,” says the distinctive voice of the ruthless Ramsay Bolton. “Come and see.”

We already knew Ramsay had taken over the Starks’ family home, but it seems as though he’s not ready to give it up anytime soon.

After sharing the trailers, the official Twitter account for the show called on fans to “send a raven” and pledge allegiance to the house of their choosing.
