Miss Colombia’s response to a massive Miss Universe pageant blunder proves she is good in a crisis, keeping measured and calm on stage.

On Sunday night in Las Vegas, Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, was mistakenly announced as the winner of the pageant, when host and comedian, Steve Harvey, read out the wrong name.

The actual winner was Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

When quizzed backstage about being stripped of the win, Gutierrez responded gracefully, Business Insider reported.

“Everything happens for a reason,” Gutierrez said.

“I’m happy for all that I did for becoming this dream. Thank you to all for voting for me.”

Her friends then said: “We love you.”

Following the debacle, Mr Harvey apologised in a series of tweets.

“I’d like to apologise wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible,” Mr Harvey said.

“Secondly, I’d like to apologise to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake.

“I don’t want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing.”

Meanwhile, a US woman who allegedly rammed her car deliberately several times into pedestrians on a busy Las Vegas strip, killing one and injuring up to 36, has been charged with murder.

The incident happened just before 7pm Sunday (local time) between Planet Hollywood, where the Miss Universe pageant was taking place, and the Paris Las Vegas Hotel.
