Network Ten will be reality TV central next year after announcing it’s resurrecting Survivor.

The series will be the fifth imported reality format Ten has commissioned in recent years.

It follows on from The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! and Shark Tank, which are all returning in 2016.

It’s a big gamble for Ten given two local versions of Survivor have failed.

The Nine Network aired a series in 2002 and it lasted one season. The Seven Network made a celebrity version in 2006 which also bombed.

Ten’s chief programming officer Beverley McGarvey told AAP the network was confident they could create a format which appealed to Australians the third time around.

“We believe there is a way to make the show resonate with Australian audiences,” McGarvey said.

The location and the hosts are yet to be named but McGarvey said, unlike Nine’s first series, it will not be filmed in Australia.

“It has to be a tropical island paradise, we’ll look at the Pacific Islands, Indonesia. It won’t be an Australian location.”

Survivor and new drama The Wrong Girl, based on the best-selling book by Zoe Foster-Blake, were the two major announcements at Ten’s 2016 programming launch in Sydney on Thursday.

Bankable actress Jessica Marais, who missed Thursday night’s launch because of illness, will star in the new drama which involves two flatmates taking a sabbatical from men.

Julia Morris and vet Dr Chris Brown return to host I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! which will again be filmed in South Africa.

This time it has a spin-off show I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! Now which will be fronted by Joel Creasy and Bachelor gal Heather Maltman.

Ten’s main mini-series is Brock, starring former Offspring star Matt Le Nevez. The drama will look at the life of champion racing car driver Peter Brock.

Among the shows returning in 2016 are MasterChef, Gogglebox, Have You Been Paying Attention?, Family Feud, Shark Tank and The Great Australian Spelling Bee.

The future of The Biggest Loser is still in limbo although Gold Coast Cops has been replaced with Territory Cops and Wonderland will not be returning.

The Grinder: Rob Lowe in the role of a famous actor who played a lawyer in a long running TV series who is convinced he can play a lawyer in real life when his show is cancelled.
