Aussie challenges for Emmy

Game of Thrones and the departed Mad Men are expected to duel for Emmy supremacy, but Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn could cause a major upset.
Mendelsohn is nominated in the supporting actor in a drama series category for his role in drama series Bloodline.

Kevin Spacey (House of Cards) is up against Jon Hamm ( Mad Men).

It’s a race stacked with talent, with Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Jim Carter (Downton Abbey), Alan Cumming (The Good Wife) and Michael Kelly (House of Cards) the other nominees.

Banks and Dinklage are the favourites, however Mendelsohn is the dark horse for his role as Danny Rayburn, the black sheep of a Florida Keys family caught in the criminal world.
Game of Thrones dominated the nominations with 24, including outstanding drama series, while American Horror: Freak Show had 19 and Olive Kitteridge 13.

After taking its final bow, Mad Men is the sentimental favourite with 11 nominations, including Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss and Christina Hendricks picking up acting nods.
The Emmy ceremony will take place at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles from 5pm Sunday (10am Monday AEST).
