Game of Thrones star Lena Headey has revealed she used a body double to film Cersei’s traumatic walk of shame scene in the show’s season-five finale.

Filmed in the old town of Dubrovnik, Croatia, the scene shows Cersei Lannister walking completely naked through the streets as she is pelted with food, faeces and verbal abuse.

The most epic Game of Thrones scene ever?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, it was revealed Headey’s real nude body was not used in the scene, which took three days to shoot.

Headey, who has several tattoos, was not expected to bare it all, but she was required to wear a bloodied, cut-up wig in place of the long, golden one she usually wears in the show.

Along with her double, Headey was also required to endure the mud-slinging and taunting – including a handful of extras flashing their private parts to her and calling her a “whore”.

“I don’t think anyone deserves that treatment,” Headey told EW.

“It’s not hard when people are screaming at you and you look like shit and you’re being f***ing humiliated to figure out how that would feel.

“There’s a part of you that’s f***ing terrified. I can’t even imagine people wanting your blood. Cersei has done wrong, but she doesn’t really deserve this.”

The scene almost didn’t get made after producers reportedly struggled to gain filming permission from the Croatian church due to its graphic content.

According to Esquire, the city of Dubrovnik only decided to allow the filming to go ahead given Headey and her double didn’t enter any places of worship while undressed.

A TMZ report from last year stated producers went to great lengths to keep the scene under wraps, spending a whopping US$200,000 in total to hire security guards and cover the cost of local businesses asked to vacate the area.

Headey said she had no idea what was next for her character when the show returns to air in 2016, but suggested “she’s got some people to kill before she’s done”.
