Conan O’Brien has made history by filming an episode of his hit talk show Conan in Cuba.

On the back of relaxed border control between the formerly hostile neighbouring countries, O’Brien made the trip south to film a special episode in Cuba’s capital, Havana.

The US government placed an embargo on Cuba in 1962, during the Cold War, that meant no direct trade or travel was allowed between the nations.

This closed door effectively shut Cuba off from the Western World, leaving the nation isolated under the scrupulous eye of leader Fidele Castro and then his successor, his brother Raúl.

O’Brien and his team spent four days in Havana to film the special.

“This is a very historic time. Relations between Cuba and United States are finally starting to thaw,” Conan  says at the beginning of the preview clip, while seated on an iconic cobblestone street.

“I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to come to Cuba – talk to the people, get to know them.”
