Offspring fans can breathe easy for now with Network Ten denying a report claiming the popular drama has been cancelled.

The Guardian Australia reported on Friday that Offspring, starring Asher Keddie as Nina Proudman, would not be returning for a sixth season.

It was reported Endemol’s head of drama John Edwards, the co-creator of the series, had confirmed the series would not be coming back.

But a Network Ten spokeswoman has denied the report, saying the story is wrong.

“John Edwards did not say Offspring would not be coming back,” the spokeswoman said.

“He was asked if it would be returning, and he said to the reporter `never say never’.

Ten’s chief programming officer Beverley McGarvey said the network wanted Offspring to return next year.

“We are in discussions with the producers and they are, in turn, in discussions with the key creatives and cast,” she said.
