Block Glasshouse contestants Karstan Smith and Maxine Stokes have revealed they are in debt after quitting their jobs to go on the renovation show.

The couple, who were recently married in Melbourne, have hit out at ‘ridiculous’ claims they used their own money to renovate their apartment at the Prahran site in Melbourne.

“Now after quitting our jobs, we are probably 40 to 50 grand in debt at this point, so to be accused of using our own money to pay for trades, I just thought that was ridiculous,” Mr Smith told the Herald Sun.

“To be honest, it kind of made me angry, because it was so far from the truth.”

Fellow contestant and former AFL footballer Darren Jolley this week accused the couple of using their own money to pay for tradesman.

The Block Glasshouse will go up for auction next Sunday, with previous contestants often walking away with hundreds of thousands of dollars in prize money.
