Owens and 19-year-old South Australian Laura Cassai had a three-round cook off.

Owens took an early two point lead in the mystery box challenge in the first round. But Cassai made up ground in the chef’s table round, leaving her with 49, a one point lead to Brent’s 48, going into the final found.

Owens triumphed by blitzing the Ethereal Chocolate dessert challenge set by Sydney chef Peter Gilmore from Quay, winning with 83 points to Cassai’s 80.

“I can’t believe it, I cannot believe it,” Owens said.

He also thanked Cassai for her friendship and congratulated her for how much she had grown as a cook and a person through the competition.

Cassai walked away with $20,000 and Emelia Jackson, who bowed out in the semi-final, was awarded $10,000.
